Diabetes aggravated FC I/R-induced brain infarction and neurological deficits were rescued by insulin treatment. The diabetic rats were induced by intravenous injection of STZ (65 mg/kg) and then were used 2 weeks later. Insulin (4 IU rat-1 day-1) was subcutaneously injected in STZ-diabetic rats for 1 week. Infarct volumes were determined after 1-h focal cerebral ischemia followed by 24-h reperfusion. Representative coronal sections (A). Mean ± SEM of quantitative infarct volume (B).
