Participation of SUMOylation in molecular signalling pathways involved in ischemic cardiomyopathy. Zinc mediated Drp1 SUMOylation inhibits mitochondrial disfunction and SERCA2a SUMOylation increases mitochondrial membrane potential inhibiting apoptosis demonstrating the friendly nature of SUMO. Decreased levels of SUMOylated PPARγ activates the NFκB pathway, again displaying the beneficial role of SUMO conjugation.
