SCUBE2 is essential for controlling IHH signaling during endochondral ossification. SCUBE2 protein is expressed in peri-chondrial cells and may be secreted (dashed line with arrow). This secreted SCUBE2 could modulate IHH signals derived from pre-hypertrophic chondrocytes (solid line with arrow) by promoting the release and mobilization of IHH, which drives differentiation into osteoblasts during endochondral bone formation.
