In this and Figures 6, 8 and 9, S denotes samples obtained from sham-controls, and I, II or III denotes samples obtained during the peak of Phases I, II or III in our experimental endotoxemia model of brain death. Values are mean ± SEM, n = 5–6 animals per experimental group. No statistical significance (P > 0.05) found among all groups in one-way ANOVA.
